On IMLD, a poet talks to students on his poem prescribed reading in Class III

Kozhikode: The students of Jinarajdas Aided Lower Primary School, Marad, were in for a genuine surprise on the eve of the UNESCO-mandated International Mother Language Day falling on February 21, 2020. Since that day was a holiday on account of Sivarathri, the authorities of the VKC Charitable Foundation-run school decided to hold the IMLD function the previous day on 20th.

It was thus that the renowned Malayalam poet, Veerankutty, whose poem, ‘Nakshatravum bhuumiyum’ {Stars and the earth}, is prescribed reading for Class III students, was invited to address all 96 of them. Besides, 61 Class IV students too were thrilled to participate in the reading.

Teacher M Neena Kumari presided; with student Anne Robert, teachers Chinchu, Raji Ramachandran S B Shruti, Sandra and Malayalam Club convener Fatima Fida speaking on the occasion. School leader Muhammed Nizar presented a memento to the former Associate Professor in Dept of Malayalam, Govt College, Madappally. The poet expressed his thanks for being invited to the school to talk on his creation.
