Unnathi scholarship for SC/ST students: Govt. launches study abroad project

Thiruvananthapuram: The government is presenting an exciting opportunity for more than 300 students belonging to the scheduled category to study abroad every year. For this, the Unnathi Scholarship for Overseas Studies scheme was launched in collaboration with ODEPC (Overseas Development and Employment Promotion Consultants Ltd.).

The project was inaugurated by Minister K Radhakrishnan. The students will be sent to study in the top ranking 500 Universities of the world. This year, 310 students will be given this opportunity.

Upon arrival at the airport, the students will be received by ODEPC officials and escorted safely to respective locations. If there are any problems during their time abroad, ODEPC can be contacted.

The minister also announced that a new scheme will be launched to send SC/ST students to pursue nursing studies in Germany. Possibilities of granting loans of up to Rs 35 lakhs for fees will be considered. After completing their studies, they can avail nursing jobs in Germany that offer an annual income of up to Rs 55 lakhs.
