West Asia conflict: CBSE announces alternative assessment scheme for Class XII students in Gulf

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday released a new notification detailing an alternative assessment scheme for the declaration of Class XII results in West Asian countries, including Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
The exams for most CBSE schools in these Gulf nations were cancelled due to the ongoing West Asia conflict.
In the notification, the board said it has classified students based on their exam status, those who appeared for all six subjects, those who appeared for some, and those whose exams are entirely pending, and established the corresponding marking criteria.
Board marks to reflect school assessments
CBSE clarified that for subjects where examinations were held, students’ actual performance will be considered for the results. However, in cases where exams were not conducted, an alternative assessment framework will be applied.
“For instance, students who are yet to appear in six examinations will be assessed on the basis of marks given by schools – such as those secured in quarterly exams, half-yearly exams, and pre-board exams,” the board stated.
“Assessment in Board will be based on the assessment done by the schools. Schools conduct assessment generally three times in a year in the form of quarterly assessment, half yearly assessment and one or more Pre-Board assessments,” the CBSE circular read.
