India says latest US immigration curbs don't 'advance shared ambitions'
New Delhi: India criticisedthe US government's decision to cut several companies off from a key foreign worker programme, calling it a move that does not "advance the shared ambitions of both countries".
Washington announced on Thursday it was suspending several Indian IT giants, including Infosys and Wipro, from the permanent labor certification programme -- a step in a process that allows employers to apply for permanent residency for their foreign workers.
India's foreign affairs ministry said the move would not affect the validity of existing H-1B visas, a popular programme used by the $315-billion IT industry, but could impact the permanent residency or green card process for eligible employees.
Still, it said the move ran contrary to the idea of talent mobility.
