Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Technical University (KTU) is revising the curriculum of BTech courses with an emphasis on practical knowledge and self-learning. The new proposals are contained in the draft report of the curriculum committee prepared for syllabus revision in the 2024-25 academic year.

The last two semesters can be reserved for internship or self-study. Self-study credits will need to be earned by taking online courses offered by various institutions. One semester would be reserved entirely for internship. As per the new curriculum, the students can get B.Tech degree after completing the sixth semester and internship.

In the current curriculum, minimal time has been set aside for internship in the eighth semester. Experts point out that the new proposed curriculum offers a chance for students to enter internship and build their career from the seventh semester onwards.
