NIRF Ranking 2025: IIT Madras tops the charts yet again

The Ministry of Education on Thursday released the 10th edition of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings for 2025. During a special event at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan unveiled the list of top institutions, colleges, and universities across 17 categories.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras continued its dominance, securing the top rank in the prestigious 'Overall' category. It was followed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore in second place and IIT Mumbai in third. IIT Madras also topped the 'Innovation' category, reinforcing its position as a leader in both research and academic excellence.

Leaders in Key Categories

In the professional disciplines, several institutions were recognized for their outstanding performance:

Management: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad took the top rank, with IIM Bangalore coming in second.

Medical and Dental: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi was named the best in both the medical and dental categories.

Law: The National Law School of India, Bangalore, was ranked as the country's best law college.

Pharmacy: Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, led the category, followed by the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, and Punjab University, Chandigarh.

Top Universities and Research

The rankings also highlighted leaders in various university and research sectors. IISc Bangalore was identified as the best place for research, while the Indian Agriculture Research Institute, Delhi, topped the agriculture category.

In the university-specific rankings, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, was named the best state public university, with Anna University in Chennai taking the second spot. The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was recognized as the best open university, and Symbiosis Skills and Professional University was ranked first for skilling.
