NHRC announces Online Short Term Internship (OSTI) March 2026

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has invited applications for the Online Short Term Internship Programme (OSTI), March 2026, to be held from March 9 to 20, 2026.
NHRC, mandated to promote Human Rights literacy and awareness as per the Protection of Human Rights Act, regularly conducts Internship Programmes, with a view to spreading awareness among University students about the need for protection and promotion of Human Rights.
This is a full-time Internship Programme from 10 am to 5.30 pm (Monday to Friday) during the notified period. There will be about 40-45 sessions on various human rights issues to sensitise the interns. The OSTI will include following inputs (i) Address/ Interaction with Honble Chairperson and Members of NHRC and other domain Experts including senior Govt. of India Officials (ii) Group Project work on Human Right issues (iii) Book Review Activity (iv) Films on Human Rights concerning child and bonded labour issues, Anti Trafficking, Health including mental health and Education issues etc. (iv) Virtual Field Visit to Jail, Police Station & NGO/ Shelter Homes. In these virtual visits, the interns get to see the workings of these institutions and may get their related questions addressed.
All the student interns successfully completing the internship would receive a stipend of Rs. 2000/-. Certificate of participation will be awarded to the candidates on the basis of their punctuality, discipline, participation in online sessions; timely submission of Group Project Presentation & Project Reports, Book Reviews. It is mandatory for interns to attend all the sessions of the internship.
Eligibility: Students (i) in 3rd year and onwards of any integrated 5-year PG Course (ii) in 3rd / final year of a graduation course (iii) in any semester/ year of any post-graduate degree course (also applicable to the students in three year LL.B. programme) (iv) in any semester/ year of any post-graduate diploma course (v) who are research scholars in any stream can apply.
Students must have consistently attained a minimum of 60% marks in Class XII and all subsequent semesters in attended degree or diploma courses, including the presently pursued courses.
The student should not be more than 28 years old as of January 1, 2026.
Students who have attended earlier Internship Programmes organised by NHRC will not be eligible to apply.

Application for OSTI-March, 2026 can be submitted online at https://nhrc.nic.in, latest by 18.00 hours on January 28, 2026.
A 250-word write-up on the topic ‘Statement of Purpose for joining NHRC Online Short Term Internship’ must be submitted by the applicants online, along with the application form, which will also serve as a basis of selection. Students who have research potential in the areas relating to human rights, as indicated in the write-up, will be preferred. The students may also include the details of co-curricular activities, Moot Courts, Internships, and research projects for strengthening their application.
Applicants should enclose self-attested scanned copies of mark-sheets from 10th standard onwards and mark-sheets of each year/ semester of graduation & of the course pursued presently, and a letter of recommendation (LOR) by the concerned HOD/ Dean/ Principal, which should be of a date subsequent to the date of uploading of the advertisement and for the presently pursued course.
