Look before you leap! UGC warns of 22 fake Indian universities in 2025 list

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified 22 fake universities currently operating in India as of October 2025. These institutions issue degrees without proper recognition, rendering all qualifications invalid under the UGC Act. Students are strongly advised to verify the authenticity of any university before admission.

List of fake universities across India

Delhi:

  1. All India Institute of Public & Physical Health Sciences (AIIPHS) State Government University, Alipur
  2. Commercial University Ltd., Daryaganj
  3. United Nations University
  4. Vocational University
  5. ADR-Centric Juridical University, Rajendra Place
  6. Indian Institute of Science and Engineering, New Delhi
  7. Vishwakarma Open University for Self-Employment, Sanjay Enclave
  8. Spiritual University, Rohini
  9. World Peace of United Nations University (WPUNU), Pitampura
  10. Institute of Management and Engineering, Kotla Mubarakpur

Uttar Pradesh:

Uttar Pradesh emerges second with four universities identified as fake.

  1. Gandhi Hindi Vidyapeeth, Prayag, Allahabad
  2. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose University (Open University), Aligarh
  3. Bhartiya Shiksha Parishad, Bharat Bhavan, Matiyari, Lucknow
  4. Mahamaya Technical University, Noida

Andhra Pradesh:

  1. Christ New Testament Deemed University, Guntur
  2. Bible Open University of India, Visakhapatnam

Kerala:

  1. International Islamic University of Prophetic Medicine (IIUPM), Kozhikode
  2. St. John’s University, Kishanattam

West Bengal: 

  1. Indian Institute of Alternative Medicine, Kolkata
  2. Institute of Alternative Medicine and Research, Thakurpukur, Kolkata

Maharashtra

  1. Raja Arabic University, Nagpur

Puducherry

  1. Sri Bodhi Academy of Higher Education, Thilaspet, Vazhutavur Road

UGC advisory

The UGC clarified that these institutions are not established under any Central or State Act and are not recognised under Sections 2(f) or 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. The commission urges students to check the official UGC website before enrolling in any university to avoid falling victim to fraudulent institutions.
