KSTA changes its stance on minimum marks for SSLC: To take up measures for quality enhancement

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala School Teachers Association (KSTA), which had earlier opposed the minimum marks system in the SSLC examination, has taken up the decision of improving the quality of education. The move came after Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan rebuked the association’s remarks.
The Chief Minister will inaugurate the program called ‘Mikavu’ which is aimed at ensuring students get a secondary education without securing D plus grade in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday. Minister V Sivankutty will also participate in the event.
KSTA took up this mission in the context where discussions about the decreasing quality of education, even as pass percentage soars, are rampant. Support will be ensured for children who are lagging behind in learning. As Mathematics is the subject in which more students pass with the minimum grade in the SSLC examination, the ‘Ganitham Lalitham’ (Easy Maths) project will be implemented to improve the quality of mathematics education. This will later be extended to all classes.
Even as the craze for English is increasing, the association is of the opinion that education should be imparted in the mother tongue. However, efforts will be made to improve English learning. Apart from enhancing children’s language skills, teacher empowerment programs will also be conducted for effective English classrooms. By the end of the primary level, the aim is to mold the child to communicate with confidence in English.
LSS and USS scholarship exams are considered as stepping stones to competitive exams. It will prepare the students to face all kinds of competitive exams with confidence. Training will also be provided to reduce the stress of students of class 10 and 12 and their parents.
