Kerala teachers’ awards 2021-22 announced; massive change in selection process

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala State School Teachers' Awards for 2021-22 have been announced. As many as 22 teachers from various categories were elected for the coveted state prize. Besides, three teachers were chosen for the Prof Joseph Mundassery Memorial Literary Award.
The education department has made several changes to the award selection process this year. Five teachers each from the lower primary, upper primary, high school and higher secondary categories and two from the vocational higher secondary category won the awards. Earlier, 14 teachers were chosen for awards in each category.

Multiple rounds of presentation and interview were also specialities of this year's selection process.
The school staff councils made the nominations. Teachers presented classes before district and state level committees. The director of general education noted that curricular and extra-curricular activities, teaching skills, and interview performance were considered for selection.
It may be noted that there were complaints about the previous selection process.
The committee included the principal secretary to the department of general education, DGE, and directors of SCERT, SSK, and SIET. The awards will be presented on Friday at an event held in Thiruvananthapuram.
