Kerala govt orders temporary appointment of principals in 36 colleges

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has ordered the temporary appointment of principals to fill the vacancies in government colleges. The decision was taken following the Kerala Administrative Tribunal’s order dated August 3 in this regard.
It is learnt that appointments were given to 36 out of 43 candidates, who were selected earlier, except five people who got retired and two others who requested to be excluded from the appointment. They would have to participate in the selection procedures, Higher Education Minister R Bindu said.
The appointments are temporary and have been made on the basis of the administrative tribunal’s order that all applicants should take part in the selection process.
“All the procedures for principal appointments to all colleges will begin soon,” said the minister.
Earlier, the administrative tribunal had directed to carry out the appointments to the principal posts within two weeks. However, the appointments were delayed citing the code of conduct over Puthuppally bypoll as one of the applicants belonged to Kottayam.
However, the tribunal, which considered the case on Monday, did not accept the delay and ordered to complete appointments by Thursday.
