Kendiya Vidyalaya admissions: HC approves decision to cancel special quota for MPs

Kochi: Kerala High Court on Monday approved the decision of the union government to cancel the special quota enjoyed by the MPs and school management committee chairman in the admissions to the Kendriya Vidyalayas. It set aside the single bench verdict that stayed the government decision.
A division bench comprising justice PB Suresh Kumar and justice CS Sudha scrapped the single bench order after considering the appeal of the union government. A section of students had approached the HC for reinstating the quota.
Assistant solicitor general S Manu appeared for the union government and stated that the move to scrap the special quota conferred to the MPs was a gallant decision.
The union government had discarded the special quota, including the 10 seats allotted for the MPs from the academic year 2022-23. The government said that the special quota was dropped when the teachers-students ratio was reduced in the National Education Policy.
