India Post GDS online application opens: Check eligibility, salary and dates

India Post has begun its major recruitment drive for 2026, opening online registration for 28,740 Gramin Dak Sevak posts across postal circles in India. The application window is now live and will remain open until February 14, giving eligible candidates a limited timeframe to complete the India Post registration online apply process through the official portal, indiapostgdsonline.gov.in.
The recruitment covers engagement for Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) roles. The entire process is being conducted online, from registration to final submission, as part of India Post’s digital engagement drive.
Vacancies spread across key postal circles
The largest number of vacancies have been announced in Maharashtra with 3,553 posts, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 3,169 and West Bengal with 2,982. Madhya Pradesh has 2,120 openings, while Tamil Nadu accounts for 2,009 posts. Gujarat and Kerala have been allocated 1,830 and 1,691 posts respectively. Delhi has the lowest intake with 42 vacancies. In total, all circles combined account for 28,740 posts under the 2026 cycle.
Candidates are required to register on the GDS Online Engagement Portal, enter personal and educational details, pay the applicable fee, upload scanned documents and submit the application form. Due to heavy traffic, applicants may face slow access during peak hours and are advised to complete the process early. A copy of the submitted application should be downloaded and retained for reference.
Key dates, eligibility and selection process
The application process began on January 31 and will close on February 14. Fee payment is open until February 16, up to 5 pm. A correction window will be available on February 18 and 19, allowing candidates to edit submitted forms. The first merit list is scheduled for release on February 28, 2026.
Applicants must be aged between 18 and 40 years and should have passed Class 10 from a recognised board, with Mathematics, English and the local language studied at that level. Basic computer knowledge, cycling skills and adequate means of livelihood are mandatory. There will be no written examination, with selection based solely on Class 10 marks.
The application fee is Rs 100, though candidates from SC, ST, PwD and female categories are exempt. Pay ranges from Rs 10,000 to Rs 24,470 for GDS and ABPM posts, while BPM roles offer between Rs 12,000 and Rs 29,380 per month.
