KHDA extends Dubai schools online learning: Check new official date

Dubai: The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has reaffirmed that all private schools, nurseries, and universities in Dubai will continue with distance learning until Friday, April 3, 2026, even as some major school groups have already applied to resume on-campus classes earlier.
In a statement to Gulf News, a KHDA spokesperson confirmed the directive, reinforcing the earlier announcement by the Education, Human Development and Community Council. “In line with the Council’s announcement, KHDA confirms that all private educational institutions in Dubai will continue distance learning until April 3, 2026,” the spokesperson said. The authority also shared the update on social media, emphasising that student safety remains the top priority.
Option for early return to campus
KHDA clarified that schools wishing to resume on-site learning before April 3 can submit formal requests, but approvals are not automatic. Institutions must provide a detailed justification outlining specific circumstances for the early reopening.
“These requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis and reviewed by the Ministry of Education, in accordance with approved regulations and procedures,” the spokesperson added. “Ultimately, the safety and well-being of students, staff, and the wider community will guide any decision regarding early resumption of on-campus learning.”

Major school groups seek early reopening
Two of the UAE’s largest private school operators, GEMS Education and Taaleem, have reportedly submitted requests to reopen their campuses from March 30, ahead of the official April 3 deadline.
The KHDA guidance underscores the continued emphasis on student safety, while allowing flexibility for institutions that can demonstrate readiness for on-site learning. Parents and students are advised to follow official communications for updates regarding campus reopening and distance learning schedules.
