Kasaragod: The Central University of Kerala (CUK) has launched the ‘Earn While You Learn’ programme, offering students an opportunity to earn income through part-time engagement while pursuing their academic studies.

The initiative was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof Siddu P Algur, who underscored its significance in fostering holistic student development.

In the first phase, 40 students have been selected for the University Library and other sections. Duties have been scheduled outside regular class hours to ensure that academic commitments remain unaffected. Roles are assigned based on students’ interests and competencies, providing opportunities for experiential learning and skill enhancement. The university plans to expand the programme to additional domains in the coming days.

The initiative is designed not merely as a financial support mechanism but as a platform for professional growth. It enables students to gain practical exposure by participating in institutional activities that complement their academic interests. In his inaugural address, Prof. Algur stressed that the programme goes beyond financial assistance. Its broader objective, he said, is to cultivate a sense of fraternity, ownership, accountability, and leadership among students.

“We are committed to student empowerment and holistic development. Through this programme, students become active participants in the governance and functioning of the university,” he said. “This scheme will evolve into a platform where every skill - academic, technical, managerial, and creative -finds space, recognition, and reward. This initiative will inspire students to dream higher, work harder, and rise stronger. An empowered student is the foundation of a Viksit Bharat, and a self-reliant learner reflects the essence of Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

Dean Students’ Welfare Prof. Rajendra Pilankatta, Library Committee Chairman Prof. Dennis Thomas, Librarian (i/c) Dr. P. Senthil Kumaran, and Assistant Dean Students’ Welfare Dr. S. Anbazhagi also addressed the gathering.
