CBSE rejects media reports alleging problems in new digital evaluation system

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education on Wednesday dismissed reports claiming that answer sheets evaluated under its new On-Screen Marking (OSM) system were not scanned properly because of lack of preparation and shortage of time.
The Board described the allegations circulating in parts of the media as “factually incorrect” and said the evaluation process had been carried out under strict supervision and according to established procedures.
CBSE defends evaluation process
In a statement shared on X, the CBSE said all stages involved in the OSM system, including scanning, quality verification, marking and final evaluation, were conducted in a structured and monitored manner.
“A claim is circulating in the media that the scanning of answer books under OSM was not carried out properly due to inadequate preparation and paucity of time. This claim is factually incorrect,” the Board said.
The CBSE further stressed that it remained committed to maintaining fairness and transparency in examinations.
“CBSE is a responsible national institution committed to ensuring fairness, transparency and integrity in the examination and evaluation process,” the statement added.
Students and parents asked to trust official information
The Board also appealed to students and parents not to rely on unverified reports or rumours regarding the evaluation process.
It advised candidates to depend only on official communication and verified information released by the CBSE.
The clarification comes amid discussions surrounding the introduction of the full-scale On-Screen Marking system for Class 12 board examinations this year.
Class 12 results declared earlier this month
The CBSE had announced the Class 12 board examination results on May 13.
According to the results released by the Board, more than 85 percent of students successfully cleared the examinations this year.
However, the overall pass percentage recorded a decline of more than three percentage points compared to the previous year.
This year also marked the first time the Board implemented complete evaluation of Class 12 answer scripts through the On-Screen Marking system.
