CBSE 12th result 2026: Important documents every student must collect after results

With the CBSE Class 12 Result 2026 expected to be declared shortly, students are being advised to keep track not only of their scores but also of the official documents issued after the examination process. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issues both physical and digital versions of key academic documents following the declaration of results. Students are encouraged to safely preserve all certificates for future academic and professional requirements.
Marksheet and passing certificate
Once the Class 12 results are announced, students who clear the examination will receive their CBSE marksheet. The document includes subject-wise marks obtained in theory and practical examinations along with grades awarded in each subject.
However, CBSE does not mention the overall percentage or CGPA on the marksheet.
Students can obtain the physical copy of the marksheet from their respective schools, while digital versions will be made available through DigiLocker using login credentials provided by schools.
Alongside the marksheet, CBSE also issues the Passing Certificate, formally called the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE) certificate. The document serves as official proof that a student has successfully completed Class 12 and is widely required during college admissions, entrance tests and employment verification.
Both printed and digital copies of the passing certificate are considered officially valid.
Migration Certificate
CBSE also provides a Migration Certificate to students completing Class 12. The document is commonly required while seeking admission to universities, particularly when students change educational boards, institutions or states.
In recent years, the board has stopped automatically issuing physical migration certificates. Students now receive the document only through DigiLocker in digital format.
According to CBSE, the digitally issued migration certificate carries official validity and is accepted by educational institutions.
Students who specifically require a printed version can apply through the CBSE online portal by paying the applicable fee. In previous sessions, the fee was around Rs. 500.
Additional documents
Although DigiLocker documents are legally recognised, many universities, colleges and government agencies continue to ask students to submit printed copies during admission and verification procedures.
Students are therefore advised to collect all original physical documents from their schools once distribution begins.
Apart from certificates issued directly by CBSE, schools may also provide additional records such as:
- Character Certificate
- School Leaving Certificate
- Provisional documents, wherever applicable
Students should carefully verify the information mentioned in all documents. Any mistake or discrepancy should be reported immediately to school authorities or CBSE for correction.
DigiLocker documents accepted by universities
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has instructed colleges and universities to accept CBSE documents issued through DigiLocker.
Students may also use digitally downloaded marksheets and certificates for provisional or temporary admission purposes until they submit physical copies.
