IIT Madras opens MTech, MA admissions for July 2026 session; Apply by April 27

Chennai: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has invited applications for admission to its MTech and MA programmes for the July 2026 session.
A wide range of department-wise MTech programmes is on offer. These include Aerospace Engineering (Aerospace Engineering); Biotechnology (Bioprocess Engineering); Civil Engineering (Building Technology, Construction Materials & Management, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulic and Water Resources Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering); Mathematics (Industrial Mathematics and Scientific Computing); Mechanical Engineering (Thermal Engineering, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Computational Engineering for Mechanical Systems – new); Engineering Design (Electric Vehicle, Robotics – new); Ocean Engineering (Ocean Structures, Ocean Technology, Petroleum Engineering); Applied Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering (Computational and Experimental Mechanics, Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering – interdisciplinary); Chemical Engineering; Computer Science and Engineering; Data Science and Artificial Intelligence; Electrical Engineering (Communications and Signal Processing, Power Systems and Power Electronics, Microelectronics and VLSI Design, Electronic System Design and Instrumentation, RF and Photonics, Integrated Circuits and Systems, Control and Optimization); Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Semiconductor Materials Technology – new); and Physics (Functional Materials and Nanotechnology).
The institute is also offering MA programmes under the Humanities and Social Sciences department, including Development Studies, Economics, English Studies, and Public Policy.
Candidates who have qualified in GATE 2024, 2025, or 2026 and meet the prescribed eligibility criteria can apply.

Applications for both MTech and MA programmes must be submitted online through the official website by April 27, 2026. Any change in the deadline will be notified on the website.
The application fee is Rs. 300 for SC/ST/PwD/female candidates and Rs. 600 for others.
Selected candidates admitted to MTech Programmes with Ministry of Education (MoE) assistantship [Half-Time Teaching Assistantship (HTTA)] will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 12,400 for up to 22 months, provided they have completed a four-year degree programme.
Additionally, meritorious MTech and MA students may be eligible for conversion to a PhD programme after one year. Joint Ph.D. programmes are also available.
The institute offers opportunities for MTech students to undertake projects in industries, approved organisations, and foreign countries, along with international exchange fellowships such as DAAD and other overseas research opportunities.
Attractive fellowships from select government organisations and industries are also available for certain disciplines.
