20 lakh people to get jobs; Kerala to launch Knowledge Economy Mission in Jan 2022

Kochi: The Kerala Knowledge Economy Mission announced by the state government with an aim to give employment to 20 lakh people in five years will be launched in January next year. The government intends to inaugurate the project by giving job to 10,000 people.

Job fairs are organised as part of this move. Virtual job fairs are already organised and the remaining events will be completed by next month. The authorities made it clear that the Confederation of Indian Industry has offered 6000 out of the initial 10,000 placements.

The project worth Rs 5000 crore will create 12 lakh opportunities globally and 8 lakh openings in the domestic level.

The Knowledge Economy Mission was officially launched in February 2021. The digital workforce management portal was introduced as part of this.

The government has assigned Kerala-Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC) to prepare a detailed project report on the Knowledge Economy Mission. K-DISC panel has approved the report that was prepared after seeking public opinion and is excepting to get a green signal from the government shortly.

K-DISC member secretary Dr P V Unnikrishnan said that the project aims at preparing more people for employment with the help of modern technology. Several institutions have offered support for this.

Rs 2000 crore of the project estimate is borrowed from the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) and the remaining amount is collected from various international agencies.

It is suggested that the name of the scheme should be switched to a simple one like ‘Jobs for Kerala’ while sustaining the concept Knowledge Economy Mission. This will be finalized once the project is presented.
