Admissions to Class 6 and Class 9 at Rashtriya Military Schools

Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS), English medium residential Public Schools run by the Ministry of Defence to impart quality education to the wards of defence personnel and civilians from classes VI to XII Schools (RMS) located at Chail in the Shimla Hills of Himachal Pradesh, Ajmer and Dholpur in Rajasthan, Belgaum and Bengaluru in Karnataka has invited applications for admissions to Class VI & IX for academic session 2025-2026, through a Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted under the aegis of the Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Army). 

The aim of Rashtriya Military Schools is ‘to impart quality education and prepare the cadets to join the Defence Services. Rashtriya Military Schools are affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Admissions are open for both Boys and Girls. Admission into Classes VI and IX is on the basis of available vacancies. All admissions are in the category of Boarders only. No day scholars are allowed. 

Eligibility: (i) Education Qualification: For admission to Class VI, applicant should have passed Class V or should be studying in Class V and should pass it before the date of admission to a Rashtriya Military School. For admission in Class IX, applicant should have passed Class VIII from a government/ recognized school before the date of admission to a Rashtriya Military School. However, candidates studying in Class V and Class VIII are eligible to appear in the respective Entrance Test. They should also preferably know sufficient English which is the medium of instruction in Rashtriya Military Schools (ii) Age: For admission to Class VI, applicants should not be less than 10 years and more than 12 years of age as on 31 March, 2025 (born between 01 April 2013 to 31 March 2015, both days inclusive). For admission to Class IX, applicant should not be less than 13 years and more than 15 years of age as on 31 March 2025. (born between 01 April 2010 to 31 March 2012, both days inclusive).  Six months’ relaxation in upper age limit is permissible for wards of personnel Killed in Action. 

Admissions: Admission to both classes will be based on Common Entrance Tests (CET) to be held in December and will be an Optical Mark Reader (OMR) based examination.

For Class VI, there will be 4 sections of 50 marks each: (i) English (ii) Intelligence Test (iii) Mathematics and (iv) General Knowledge and Current affairs. The minimum marks to qualify will be 35% for English and 40% for each of the other sections. English Marks are not counted towards Merit. Interview will carry 20 marks.

Class IX CET will have 2 papers each with maximum of 100 marks. Paper 1 will have questions from English (50 marks), Hindi (20 marks) and Social Science (30 marks). Paper 2 will have questions from Mathematics (50 marks) and Science (50 marks). Candidates need to get 50% marks in each paper to qualify. Interview will carry 50 marks. 

Syllabus: Written test will generally be of Class V standard for Class VI and Class VIII standard for Class IX admission. Medium of Question Paper in Entrance exam is bilingual (English and Hindi both) for Class VI and only in English for Class IX.

Interview: Those candidates who qualify in the written test and short-listed, will be called for the interview at one of the Rashtriya Military Schools. Marks of the interview will be added to the score of the written test before deciding the final merit. 

Result: Merit list of successful candidates and the school allotment will be declared by IHQ of MoD (Army), ADGAE/AE-2. No separate intimation will be sent to the unsuccessful candidates. However, the final result will be available on www.rashtriyamilitaryschools.edu.in and on Army Intranet.

Final Selection: Candidates selected in order of merit on the basis of total marks scored by them in the admission test and the interview will be admitted to different Rashtriya Military Schools based on availability of vacancies, medical fitness and as per the reservations norms laid down for various categories. Qualified candidates will be allotted school purely on the basis of Merit and vacancy available in school. 

Medical Fitness: All the candidates will be required to undergo medical fitness examination before admission to the Rashtriya Military Schools. Details can be had in the Prospectus at https://apply-delhi.nielit.gov.in/
