Diploma Course in Dramatic Arts at National School of Drama New Delhi
National School of Drama, an Autonomous Institute under Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India; Bahawalpur House, Bhagwandas Road, New Delhi-110001; has invited applications for admission to the Three-year, full time, residential, Diploma Course in Dramatic Arts 2024 -2027.
The course, starting in July 2024, aims at training students to become professionals in the area of Acting, Design, Direction and other theatre related disciplines. There are a total of 32 seats. Reservation for SC/ST/OBC (Non Creamy Layer) / PwD/EWS etc. will be as per Govt. of India rule. Medium of Instruction will be Hindi / English.
Specialization: The three-year course will consist of 6 semesters of 20 weeks each. The course has the first three consecutive semesters as an integrated course and the next three consecutive semesters in the area of specialization either in Acting or in Design and Direction. The specialization in Design and Direction will be available only to 5 students.
Eligibility: Applicants should hold Graduation in any discipline from a recognized University in India or abroad. Applicants should have participated in at least 6 different theatre productions (document of proof of the theatre experience such as certificate of participation, brochure, leaflet, newspaper clips etc to be attached with the application). Applicants should also submit recommendation letters from at least one Theatre Expert and should have working knowledge of Hindi / English.
Age Limit: Age should be minimum 18 years and maximum 30 years as on 01.07.2024. The upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC / ST category and by 3 years for OBC NCL category.
Selection: The selection is a two tier process. Applicants should appear for a preliminary examination and if selected have to appear for a final examination workshop. The preliminary examination/audition will be conducted in May & June, 2024 at 18 centres- Guwahati, Agartala, Gangtok, Itanagar (25 May); Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad (27 May); Kolkata, Patna, Bhubaneswar (29-30 May) Pune, Bhopal, Ahmedabad (1-3 June); Chandigarh, Jaipur, Varanasi, Srinagar (4-6 June); Delhi (8- 12 June). Centres may be clubbed together depending on the number of candidates. The candidates will be intimated about the date of the preliminary examination through e-mail and it will be also available at www.nsd.gov.in. The schedule is subject to change. Study Material and guidelines for preliminary examination /audition will be available at www.nsd.gov.in in April/May 2024.
Those qualifying in this test will have to attend a workshop of 5 days in New Delhi from 23 to 27 June, 2024 for their final selection for which they will be paid D. A. and sleeper class train/bus fare from the place of their residence to Delhi & back by the shortest route, on submission of ticket/cash receipt and will also be provided accommodation on modest sharing basis.
An Expert Committee constituted by NSD will assess the aptitude and talent of the candidates.
Physical Fitness: Those selected for admission will be required to undergo a medical test for physical fitness in NSD campus/empanelled hospital before they join the campus for classes/activities in the School.
Financial Assistance: All Indian Nationals selected will be given a monthly scholarship of Rs. 9,500/- p.m. to meet their academic and related expenses.
