AWSAR- Science Story contest: Entries by September 30
Entries can be submitted till 30th September, 2020 for AWSAR (Augmenting Writing Skills for Articulating Research), a Science Story contest organised by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt of India, aimed at unleashing the Spirit of Science Communication among research scholars.
Entries should be in the form of a Popular Science Story, indicating the complete research story in simple language to be understood by the general public. The story must relate to research being pursued by him/her. No complex figures, graphs, equations or formulae should be included except self-explanatory infographics which may be formulated for effective communication.
Only original articles sent exclusively for nomination for AWSAR award will be accepted. Articles previously published elsewhere, or simultaneously sent for publication elsewhere, are not acceptable.
Indian citizen pursuing PhD (both full-time and part-time) or Post Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) in any stream of Science and Technology (S&T), within the tenancy period of her/his research, can submit the entry.
The scholars should be enrolled in PhD program from Government approved Institutions for last two years. Post Doctoral Fellows (PDF) associated with any recognized institute can also apply. Preference will be given to applicants with published paper(s) of their research work.
The applicant should mention the theme, title of the paper along with their name, affiliation, and contact details in the submitted article. Articles submitted should carry a declaration that the article is original and has not been previously published elsewhere.
Article of 1000-1500 words (A4-size with 2.5 cm margin on all sides, single column, Times New Roman font for English & unicode font for Hindi, font size 12, 1.5 line spacing written in MS Word) will be accepted for further scrutiny.

A panel consisting of eminent science communicators and scientists, constituted by DST, would evaluate the entries.
The awards for the best three entries under Ph.D category will carry cash award of Rs.1,00000/-, Rs.50,000/- and Rs. 25,000/- respectively. 100 selected entries in this category will get cash prize of Rs.10,000/-. There will be awards in the Post Doctoral Fellows category also.
AWSAR Awards will be bestowed on 28 February at National Science Day event. All the awardees will be given an opportunity to attend Science Film Training Workshop organized by Vigyan Prasar.
