Admission to Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology Course Kerala

Directorate of Technical Education Padmavilasam Street, Fort, Nalumukku, Pazhavangadi Thiruvananthapuram 695 023; has invited applications for admission to the Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHMCT), Program Kerala for 2024-25.

(BHMCT) is a professional programme of four-year duration, that equips students with the skills and knowledge required for employment in the hotel sector or for starting their own businesses. The course covers topics including food production, food and beverage services, business communication, management, front office operations, and others. 

Only Indian citizens are eligible for admission unless otherwise notified. Those seeking admission to BHMCT course will be categorised as Keralite, Non-Keralite Category I (NK I) and Non-Keralite Category II (NK II). 

Academic Eligibility: Applicant should have passed Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) or examination equivalent thereto as approved by the affiliating universities of the respective colleges with minimum marks as prescribed by the respective universities or should have passed D.Voc. Stream in the same or allied sector. 

Selection: The selection will be from the rank list approved by the Director, LBS Centre prepared based on the score obtained in Kerala Hotel Management Aptitude Test (KHMAT) to be conducted by LBS Centre. The student should qualify the entrance examination (KHMAT) conducted by LBS Centre for getting admission to the Government seat. LBS Centre will be preparing a rank list based on the score obtained in the entrance examination (KHMAT). 

Selection to Management Seat: Admission to management seats can be done directly by the management. But the students who are getting admitted should have a valid KHMAT score or score of any recognized national level entrance examinations for BHMCT course.

KHMAT will be an OMR based test of 90 minutes duration and will be conducted at various centres which will be announced later and the candidates will be given an option through online portal to select the suitable examination centre prior to the examination. It will have 90 Objective type multiple choice questions from Basic Mathematics (20 questions), Communication Skill (20), General Knowledge and Current Affairs (20), Hospitality and Catering Technology awareness (30). Each question carries 1 mark. No marks will be deducted for incorrect response. Medium of examination will be English. The rank list for admission to the course will be published on the basis of the total marks secured by the candidates for the Entrance Examination. Those who have secured marks above zero will be included in the rank list.

Application: Application can be submitted online

Application fee is Rs. 1200/- (Rs.600/- for SC/ST). Application fee can be paid latest by 30th April 2024, online or paid in any branch of Federal Bank using the Chalan that can be downloaded while submitting online application. 

Online Application must be completed by May 1, 2024.

Allotment to the colleges will be done through a Centralised Allotment Process (CAP) based on the options submitted online by the candidates who have been included in the rank list. The provisional list of institutions covered under the BHMCT course admission through Centralized Allotment Process 2024-25 is given in Annexure 1 of the Prospectus. The final list will be made available before CAP commences.
