SC grants relief to Civil judge who lost job due to lockdown crisis

Lockdown due to Covid created an unprecedented situation across he country. But how did the state Government lose sight of that? SC asked.
Rakesh Kumar had got selection as a city civil judge. But he could not join duty when nationwide lockdown created an unprecedented situation. Travel restrictions were so severe. Trains and flights were cancelled and hence he could not join. So the appointment was cancelled.
His pleas for re-appointment were turned down. The Bihar HC too did not come to his aid. But when he approached the SC he got relief. The court directed the state government to appoint him.
The SC observed that he should not have been given such a rough treatment in view of the crisis the country faced due to lockdown. It is the Governor who makes appointments on the recommendation of the state government, the SC said.
