Parivahan portal glitches cause RC backlog: Owners left in limbo even 3 months after renewal

Ottapalam: Vehicle owners are facing serious inconvenience as Registration Certificates (RC) are not being issued even months after renewing vehicle registrations. In many cases, even after three months, the updated RC has not been made available, landing owners in trouble during inspections.
Currently, only digital documents are being provided to vehicle owners. However, during checks by the police or the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), both physical and online records often show outdated information. As a result, owners may face fines or other legal consequences.
To avoid penalties, many are forced to carry receipts and other documents as proof that they have completed the renewal process. The delay is reportedly due to technical issues within the Parivahan portal and, at times, the failure of Motor Vehicle Inspectors to upload documents from the regional offices. A shortage of staff to process these updates is also contributing to the problem.
Applications submitted without Aadhaar-based verification are another reason why updates may not reflect correctly on the system. According to MVD officials, applicants can resolve the issue by visiting the Regional Transport Office (RTO) or Sub-RTO in person.
Authorities have admitted that in most cases, delays in uploading documents to the Parivahan portal are to blame for RCs not being updated. Ironically, while the department has introduced faceless services to reduce the need for physical visits, such issues are now forcing vehicle owners to return to RTO offices to complete the process.
