Mahindra set to launch tech-heavy XUV 7XO with segment-first triple-screen cabin

# Auto Desk

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. is scheduled to officially launch its new flagship SUV, the XUV 7XO, during a global premiere today, Jan. 5, at 8:00 p.m. local time. The vehicle, a high-tech evolution of the popular XUV700, introduces a segment-first triple-screen dashboard and advanced 540-degree camera technology aimed at securing the company’s lead in the premium mid-size SUV market.

The launch marks a strategic shift for Mahindra as it transitions its internal combustion engine (ICE) lineup to the "XO" naming convention, following the branding success of the smaller XUV 3XO.

Pricing and Variants

While official pricing will be revealed during the evening event, industry analysts expect the XUV 7XO to be priced between ₹15.00 lakh and ₹28.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

The SUV will be offered in four primary trims: MX, AX5, AX7, and a new flagship AX9L (Luxury). Pre-bookings opened in mid-December with a token amount of ₹21,000, and Mahindra officials expect the top-spec AX9L to be the primary driver of initial demand.

Key Features and Tech Upgrades

The XUV 7XO is positioned as a "software-defined vehicle," borrowing heavily from the design language of Mahindra’s upcoming electric vehicle (EV) series.

  • Coast-to-Coast Dashboard: A massive glass panel housing three separate displays: a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver, a 12.3-inch central infotainment touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch dedicated entertainment screen for the front passenger.
  • 540-Degree Vision: An upgrade over the standard 360-degree systems, this setup includes "under-body" camera views to assist in navigating rough terrain or tight urban spaces.
  • Level 2+ ADAS: An enhanced Advanced Driver Assistance System featuring real-time visualisation and improved radar-camera fusion for highway steering and collision avoidance.
  • Premium Cabin: The AX9L variant debuts "Boss Mode," allowing rear passengers to electronically adjust the front co-driver seat for maximum legroom.

Performance and Design

Mechanically, the 7XO retains the proven powertrains of its predecessor.

  • 2.0L Turbo Petrol: 200 hp and 380 Nm of torque.
  • 2.2L mHawk Diesel: 185 hp and up to 450 Nm of torque.
  • Transmission: 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic options; All-Wheel Drive (AWD) remains exclusive to select diesel variants.

The exterior features a refreshed "Twin Peaks" grille, new boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights, and redesigned 19-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels. The vehicle will launch with seven colour options, including a new signature red hue alongside staples like Stealth Black and Everest White.

Market Competition

The XUV 7XO enters a crowded field, competing directly with the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, and MG Hector Plus. Analysts suggest that the 7XO's focus on passenger-side entertainment and advanced camera systems may give it a competitive edge in the luxury-conscious Indian market.
