From off-road to farmland: Jimny ploughs paddy field in Kerala | WATCH
Wayanad: The Maruti Suzuki Jimny, introduced as the successor to the iconic Gypsy, is widely known for its off-road prowess. Often spotted at mud races and adventure trails, the four-wheel-drive SUV has now surprised many by proving its utility in farming.
A video from Panamaram in Wayanad district, now going viral on social media, shows a Jimny being used to prepare a field for paddy cultivation. The SUV worked alongside a tractor to plough the land, drawing crowds and curious onlookers who captured and shared the footage online.
Unveiled at the 2023 Delhi Auto Expo, the Jimny was launched in India as a five-door model, unlike the three-door versions exported to overseas markets. It is available with both manual and automatic transmission options, combining off-road strength with on-road versatility.
Powered by Maruti Suzuki’s 1.5-litre K15B four-cylinder petrol engine with idle start-stop technology, the Jimny delivers 104.8 PS of power and 134.2 Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic, complemented by the AllGrip Pro four-wheel-drive system.
Marketed as an all-terrain compact lifestyle SUV, the Jimny measures 3,985 mm in length, 1,645 mm in width and 1,720 mm in height, with a 2,590 mm wheelbase and 210 mm of ground clearance. Built on the Suzuki Tekt platform, it features a three-link rigid axle suspension, ensuring stability on varied terrains, including, as the viral clip shows, a muddy paddy field.
