High demand for Balaramapuram handloom during Onam season

Onam means Onakkodi for Keralites. Onakkodi refers to the new clothes specially purchased for the Onam festival and worn on Thiruvonam, the main day of the Onam festival. The traditional handloom textiles from Balaramapuram is at high demand during Onam season. Balaramapuram 'Kaithari' (handloom) is famous for its unique craftsmanship and traditional varieties of handloom textiles using a primitive type of throw-shuttle pit looms for the production of exclusively cotton fabrics.
