Summer holidays end; See Ashtamudi still on paper
Anchalummoodu: The 'See Ashtamudi' boat service, aimed at the rejuvenation of the water transport and tourism in Kollam incorporating the Ashtamudi lake and other tourist spots nearby is yet to be implemented even with the summer holidays nearing its end.
When enquired on the project, Alappuzha water transport department director office is of the same answer that the boat construction has been completed and is on the final fine tuning.
See Ashtamudi was approved by the state government to help tourists to see all the eight distributaries.
The project was aimed at the foreign and domestic tourists. The double decker boat was designed allowing to enjoy the scenery from the upper half while water transport was aimed at the lower half.
Normally, tourists and school picnic groups are who come to enjoy the boat ride and scenic beauty taken in dilapidated boats. There are four boats in Kollam but three of them are non-feasible for travel.
The only transport mode for students of the Perungalam Govt HSS is the boat service. The demand for a bridge from Peungalam to Pezhumthuruthu is also being raised.
