Mettupalayam: Heritage train services from Ooty to Mettupalayam which was cancelled temporarily due to engine breakdown and non-favourable weather conditions will be restored today.
The train stopped inside the forests near Adderley for about 7 hours due to breakdown of the engine piston rod last Saturday. Then in the following days the Nilgiri collector put out restrictions for tourists considering the heavy rain forecast.
Also the passengers boarding the heritage trains in the coming days have been asked to take adequate amount of food with them as the chances of heavy rain is high. This is to avoid a situation of non-availability of food if the engine breaks down or heavy rains hitting unexpectedly.
On Saturday, many passengers, including women and children, were caught in difficult times with no food when the train stopped following engine failure at 8 am. The passengers were taken in another train from Coonoor at around 3 pm. Though the railway authorities brought food and water with them, it did not reach all passengers.
