KSRTC's tourist services to Arippa, Kudukathupara lure trek lovers
Alappuzha: KSRTC Alappuzha depot has introduced a new tourism service to Arippa and Kudukathupara in Kollam after the success of Malakkapara service. Rs 1000 will be charged from a passenger which includes bus ticket fare, entry fees and food expense.
The forest range extending as a part of Western Ghats in the borders of Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram districts is a sanctuary of rare bird species and one of the most cherished spots of bird watchers. It is an ideal location for bird watching as the forest lands are mostly flat without much rise and fall. Rare species of trees and fauna include sambar deer, barking deer, bison, pigs, elephant, leopard, Indian giant squirrel, wolf, wild cat, chevrotains (mouse-deer), rabbit and elephant.
Kudukathupara offers heaps of breathtaking sights for visitors. The huge boulders, snowing hills and ample medicinal plants allure tourists to this forest range. It is situated in the Anakulam forests of Adayaman panchayat in Kollam district. The hills located 840 metres above sea level formed by the congregation of three massive rocks. The travellers have to trek a kilometre from Anakulam to reach the top of Kudukkathupara. Medicinal plants and trees including Wrightia Tinctoria (‘Gandharvan pala’) and Trichopus Zeylanicus (‘Arogyapacha’) grow abundantly on the hillsides.
As the travel to Arippa and kudukathupara requires strenuous efforts, age restriction has been put forth for the travellers in this new service of KSRTC. Only those between the age group of 18 to 50 will be allowed for the journey and the weather conditions also shall be favourable. The first trip will be on November 21 with 50 passengers.
