Kottayam is all set to promote village tourism
Kottayam: Enjoying the breeze and sunset in paddy fields, tourists can spend their holidays in villages in Kottayam. Large number of tourists, including foreigners, are visiting Kottayam to explore the beauty of the village and take a break from the busy life.
A tourist centre was established at Kanjiram- Malarikkal region in Thiruvarppu panchayat to promote village tourism in the district. The villages including Vettikkadu, Malarikkal and Pazhukkanila will be the major tourist hubs in the district.
“Boat ride in Pazhukkanila backwaters to experience the beauty of Vembanadu will be launched soon for the tourists,” said river linking project coordinator K Anil Kumar.
The tourist centre will arrange 25 homestays in the villages here. Homestays will be arranged in the beautiful landscapes in each village. Natives have extended their support to the panchayat authority for the project.
Thiruvarppu panchayat authority expects that Malarikkal tourism centre will contribute in the economic development of the village.
Tourist Fest to begin on Jan 11
Kottayam is gearing up to host village and backwaters tourism fest from January 11 to 14.
A boating facility will be launched in Kanjiram boat jetty. MLA Suresh Kuruppu will inaugurate the boat ride on January 10 at 4 pm.
A food fest will be organised by Kudumbashree units in the district at the event. The food stalls will be open here from 4 pm to 7 pm.
Village trip of the state tourism department will be launched in connection with the project. The department has selected 10 regions in Kerala for village trip.
