Its the advent of the season blue
The Department of Forests and Wildlife has started preparing for the Neelakurinji (Strobilanthes kunthiana) season which blooms once in twelve years. Thousands of visiotrs arrive in Munnar during August-November to catch a glimpse of the scintillating view.
The number of visitors entering the Kurinji garden have been restricted. Even before the season’s advent, the forest department has even published a special edition of their magazine ‘Aranyam’ especially about Neelakurinji. This is available in the department website.
The authorities said that the visitors will be more during the Onam season. They added that a pre-planned trip would avoid any difficulties in the journey.
The visiting time is scheduled between 7 am to 4 pm. The pre-booking facility of tickets has been arranged. The tickets would be sold mostly online.
The ticket fare for adults would be Rs 120 and Rs 90 for children. Those carrying camera should pay an amount of Rs 40 and for video cameras the rate would be Rs 315.
In a day, only 3500 visitors would be allowed in the park. And the time spent inside is limited to 2 hours.
The tickets are aslo available at KSRTC bus stand in Munnar and Marayur Forest Complex. The time to enter the park would be marked in the ticket.
The forest department have also arranged a visitors lounge and resting house at Fifth Mile of Eravikulam National Park for the visitors coming to Munnar. Transportation facilities have been arranged from here to the Kurinji park.
