High-speed ferry service connects Ernakulam and Vaikom
Vaikom: The ferry services of high-speed boat ‘Vega 120’ between Ernakulam and Vaikom began on Sunday. It is aimed at both tourists and daily commuters.
Presently, the services are scheduled according to the normal office timing. The boat is partially air-conditioned.
There are two cabins on the boat. 40 passengers could be seated in the A.C. cabin while 80 could sit comfortably in the ordinary cabin. The boat is manufactured by Navgathi Company.
The boat would take only two hours to reach Ernakulam from Vaikom and moves at a speed of 25 km/hr. Though it needs only 1.5 hour to reach Ernakulam from Vaikom by road, it usually takes more than two hours due to heavy traffic.
Vega would start its journey at 7.30 am from Vaikom and would reach Ernakulam at 9.30 am. The boat will return from Ernakulam at 5.30 pm to reach Vaikom at 7.30 pm.
The services of this new air-conditioned boat was started aiming at tourism development. There is enough toilet facility and a cafeteria on the boat. It will also provide breakfast.
There are four connection services connecting the high-speed boat service between Vaikom and Thavanakadavu, Thevara Ferry and Kakkanad and Vytilla, and Perumbalam South and Poothotta.
From Vaikom to Ernakulam – Rs 40 for ordinary cabin and Rs 80 for A.C. cabin
