Heritage train delays due to engine breakdown; tourists stranded
Mettupalayam: The Ooty heritage train was delayed for many hours following engine breakdown. The stranded tourists were later taken to Ooty by bringing a new engine.
The train left for Ooty on Wednesday at 7.10 am. It was stopped at the next station, Kallar, after engine failure was spotted. There were 180 passengers in the train.
The loco pilot and passengers came to know about the engine trouble at around 7.40 am when water was poured in, to operate the engine.
Later, a separate engine and coaches were brought from Mettupalayam following the instruction of Salem Railway Division.
The train resumed journey from Kallar at 10.50 am and reached Kunoor only at 1.30 in the afternoon, which was supposed to reach by 10.30 in the morning. The damaged engine was brought back to Mettupalayam station by afternoon.
