Heritage museum to come up at Thalassery Jagannath temple
Thalassery: As part of Thalassery ancestral project, a museum at par with international standards is being planned at the Jagannath temple. The project, worth Rs 11 crore, is envisioned to be completed in two phases.
The temple governing council had initially submitted a proposal of Rs 15 crore. The first phase of construction is estimated to cost Rs 4.9 crore. It will include a library, a seminar hall, an open air auditorium, research facilities and residential facilities. The construction of the 4 storey house is set to begin this December.
The museum will be built next to the temple pond. In the second phase, the materials for the museum will be arranged which is expected to cost Rs 6 crore. The government is also considering renovation of the temple pond, pavement construction and hostel facilities among others, which can cost Rs 4 crore. The programme is being implemented through state tourism department.
