Thrissur: The preliminary steps to implement the Green Carpet project, which has been envisaged to restore the tourist destinations in the district with an aim to attract visitors, has begun in Thrissur district.
The key objectives of the programme include setting up of basic amenities at these destinations and its maintenance on a permanent basis. The project will be completed within a month.
As part of the tourism policy of the state government, the project will be implemented in Vilangankunnu, Peechi, Vazhani, Poomala, Snehatheeram beach, Thumburmuzhi river garden and Athirappilly in its first phase.
Other goals include arranging basic facilities in order to make each one a top class destination, clean toilets, quality food, maintaining sanitation, waste disposal, walkway and safety of visitors.
The programme is being executed with the cooperation of village panchayat, Kudumbasree, schools, colleges, NSS units, organisations. In this regard, taxi, auto drivers, traders and hotel staff will be imparted special training.
Initially, the clean-up drive at these destinations will be carried with public participation.
The district-level clean destination campaign will be inaugurated by B D Devassy MLA at Thumburmuzhi on October 1.
