Cable cars ready to fly visitors to Jatayu
Kollam: Cable cars imported from Europe are ready for safari at Jatayu Earth’s Center. The world’s biggest bird sculpture situated at a height of 750 ft from the sea level and unending greenery and the western ghats are a treat to eyes from the cable cars.
The Jatayu Earth Center will be inaugurated on Malayalam month Chingam 1 (Aug 17). Sixteen cable cars set up in the park were imported from Switzerland via sea. It took one-and-a-half-months to reach Kochi. They were brought to Chadayamangalam in trailers via road. 220 workers were part of the project.
The total investment for the cable car is nearly Rs 40 crore. However, only Rs 400 will be charged for the up and down journey per head, said Jatayu Earth Center CMD Rajiv Anchal.
In the steep geography of rocks at Jatayu, common ropeway cars would be dangerous. This was the reason behind the decision to import modern cable car system from Switzerland. Towers to attach the rope of cable cars were built in the steep rocks after a long term security checks and measurements. Built in the European technology, the modern cable cars are ecofriendly. Management of the cable cars will be by a north Indian company called Usha Brecko Group.
From the base camp to the top of the hill, it takes less than 10 minutes via cable cars. At a time, eight persons can travel in one cable car. The rope has the capacity to hold 512 people at a time.
Over 10 years of waiting, Jatayu Earth Center will be presented to public by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Aug 17.
