Boat Jetty construction begins at Parassinikkadavu
Taliparamba: The construction of the new boat jetty has commenced at Parassinikkadavu here. The construction is being carried out under the government’s Malabar River Cruise project which links rivers in Kannur and Kasaragod districts.
17 boat jetties will be constructed in both districts under the project. The inland waterways transport department is in charge of the project.
Rs 4 cr is estimated for the boat jetty construction at Parassinikkadavu. At present, the roof work of the boat jetty is under progress. Seating arrangements for passengers, footpath, lights facility and parking yard will be arranged.
It is reported that the works will be completed within 2 and a half months.
As the migrant workers returned to their states, the shortage of workers became a major problem to carry out the work. According to the authority, they are unable to speed up the work due to the shortage of labourers.
Earlier, the boat jetty at Parassinikkadavu which is marked in the tourism map of Kerala was completely destroyed.
Hence, a temporary arrangement was made to operate the boats of water transport department and private groups.
It is examined that in the absence of boat jetty, passengers will face trouble to board on the boat during heavy rains.
The boat service from here was temporarily stopped following the lockdown.
