‘Padayappa’ positions himself near Rajamala ticket counter; tourists make run for lives
Munnar: Wild tusker ‘Padayappa’ returned here on Wednesday. The wild tusker was found near the forest department ticket counter in 5th Mile near Rajamala at around 2 pm. Seeing the pachyderm, tourists who were standing in queue for tickets made a run for their lives.
The wild elephant was named ‘Padayappa’ by the locals. The tusker is familiar to the locals as he keeps visiting the place frequently.
Padayappa who came through the Marayoor road first visited the roadside stalls of Selvem, Njanadas and Pichal and ate carrot, pineapple and corn. Later it made its way towards the ticket counter.
During this time, many tourists, including North Indians, were standing in queue. Seeing the tusker, they ran away. After an hour, Padayappa returned to the forest via parking area. Tourists were allowed to enter Rajamala only after the tusker returned.
Two weeks before it stood on the road and interrupted traffic for more than an hour.
