Caravan tourism: Kerala state to explore its potential
Thiruvananthapuram: In the bid to promote caravan tourism, the state government arranges all facilities at various tourist destinations to offer a unique travel experince to visitors. Caravan tourism offers safe accommodation for travellers in vehicles. For this, caravan parks will be established, especially in those regions with fewer hotels.
Private sector will be allowed to start caravan parks on sites of size at least 50 cents. The premises must be spacious enough to park the caravans and ensure safety to travellers. There shall be a fully enclosed compound wall in the park with other security measures including regular patrolling and surveillance camera. Emergency medical care also has to be set up in the parks.
As lodging in the isolated regions is not safe, Caravan tourism has not got much appreciation in the state. Minister of Tourism PA Muhammed Riyas said that caravan parks are launched as a solution to this. Enough impetus will be provided to the private sector to invest in the project, added the minister.
The caravans shall mandatorily have Sofa-cum-bed, refrigerator, microwave oven, dining table, cubicle, toilet, air conditioning, internet and audio- video access, charging provisions, GP and separation from the driver’s cabin. The caravans approved by the Motor Vehicle Department can only be used in the parks.
