Thrissur girl's solo trip to Ethiopian tribal hamlet
Thrissur: Neha who set off her journey to roam around the world and visited 17 countries becomes an inspiration for all girls who dream for solo travels. Her last stay at a tribal hamlet in Ethiopia was an amazing episode of the trip.
Vadanappally native Neha (43) is a bank employee in Dubai. She is daughter of Girija and Vasudevan, and her husband is Rohan.
Her Ethiopian journey was to the Omo valley on the banks of the river Omo. Before her return, she could appreciate the lives of the Mursi tribe in which the girls wear a big plate-like ornament of wood by making cuts on the lower lips.
Only very few women usually reach this region of Ethiopia. Hence a woman’s solo visit had surprised the police and the tribal chief. It is the tribal chief who warmly welcomed the travellers and showed the astonishing sights and culture of the isolated land. The travellers have to pay a certain charge to the chief for sight seeing in the village.
There are seven distinct tribal groups in the Oma valley. Each tribal group has differently structured houses and dressing styles. The tourists are not permitted to live in that region. So Neha left the valley after spending a day there.
