The coldest yet exquisite Punnayar waterfalls in Idukki
I never expected the early morning trip would be the most beautiful view I have ever experienced till date. Starting from Thodupuzhayar, crossing the Kaliyar estate, Vannapuram and Venmani, we reached the village of Kanjikuzhy.
From here, a friend and I started off to Punnayar while the Pazhayarikandam river also decided to accompany us. After two kilometers from the city, we reached the Punnayar waterfalls.
With a walking stick in hand we slowly walked, moreover trekked.
The passage was narrow, but it was beautified by many exotic plants.
The river that failed to catch up with us, was now flowing at high speed. Finally, it fell down to 70 feet depth on to the rocks etching the most mesmerizing picture in an onlooker’s heart. Later from the bottom, it again flows calmly.
I had come to a halt. For the better view, one has to go move downwards, but walking is extremely dangerous. So we crawled down and reached the waterfall as close as possible.
The minute I touched the cold water, I even forgot about my existence. The feeling can’t be expressed in words. While walking back, the heart refused to leave the visuals behind.
But this was not it. The nearby viewpoint shows the mighty river joining Periyar.
We later came to know that there was another waterfall nearby. After an adventurous trek, we visited that too.
