This vacation, spend a day enjoying aqua tourism by Matsyafed
A place to visit with family – that is what everyone is searching for this summer. Matysafed has introduced tour packages this year, to enjoy and explore the aquatic life. Eco- friendly aqua tourism facilities are provided in the ambience of backwaters in Matsyafed fish farms at Njarakkal, Malippuram, both in Ernakulam and Palaikkari in Kottayam near Ernakulam border.
The road trip as part of the tourism package is named as ‘Bhoomika’ and the boat trip is named as ‘Pravahini’. It starts from Njarakkal aqua tourism centre. Njarakkal fish farm is located in the heart of Vypin island near Arattuvazhi beach, adjacent to Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute. The visit starts with breakfast (Appam and egg curry) at 9 am at a tree house here.
Laze at the bamboo hut, go boating on coracle, pedal boats and oar boats. Then in an AC tempo traveller, the tourists are taken to Palaikkari fish farm. Around 11.45 am the vehicle will reach there. After refreshments, from 12 to 1 noon, the travellers are taken in Shikkara boats through Vembanad lake to enjoy the scenic beauty of the waters. Visitors can alight at regions of shallow depth on sand dunes.
At 1 pm, lunch is provided. The menu includes crab, prawn, pearl spot fish, oyster and other seafood items, vegetables and ice-cream. Later a visit to the houseboat museum that displays a huge collection of ancient equipment used by fishermen folk, children’s park and fish farm is arranged. A sculpture of a mermaid built near Palakkari farm entrance can also be seen.
At 3 pm, the journey towards Malippuram will start and end at 4.15 pm. Tea will be provided at mangrove park. At around 5.30 Chappa beach visit is scheduled. Sunset can be enjoyed from the beach. Around 6.30 pm, the visitors will return to Njarakkal fish farm. The visit will conclude with dinner (tapioca and fish curry).
This package will cost Rs 2000 for an adult and Rs 1000 for children between 5 and 12 years of age.
There should be at least 5 persons in a group. The maximum can be up to 25. Another package that starts and ends at Palaikkari is also available. Also among this, another package excluding the sunset is provided at Rs 1500 with dinner for adults and Rs 750 for children.
The prime attraction here is the milkfish at Malippuram. Another attraction is the walk through shores of the water resource at Palakkari. The bamboo huts at Njarakkal will also woo visitors.
Angling is another activity that visitors can engage in. Trips can be planned without any packages also. The food delicacies are attractive in all these regions.
