Thannithodu forest range under surveillance
Elimullumplackal: Special cameras have been installed in the forest areas of the Konni- Thannithodu route from Njallur to Thannithodu.
There are many elephant passages along this route. Warning boards have been placed in such locations. But complaints have been received that the passengers throw plastic wastes into the forests. Hence the cameras were placed to identify those who dispose garbage in the forest areas.
There are facilities in Njallur Forest Station to save the visuals taken through multiple cameras.
As elephants cannot distinguish between edible things and plastic, they eat the plastic dumped in their passages. It causes severe health problems in elephants and also they may die due to blockage or infection in intestine and stomach. The cameras have been installed to avoid such incidents. The forest officials said there is a decrease in such waste disposing issues after the forest range was brought under surveillance.
