Welcome to Biennale; Artists weave magic on Kochi streets
Kochi: The fourth edition of Kochi Muziris Biennale is just a few days away and the streets of West Kochi have adorned itself in colors announcing the arrival of the biggest art festival of the continent.
The artists-in-residence have put up a show of graffiti and wall art to welcome the visitors. The visual treat is arranged by the artists-in-residence, part of the Pepper House Residency programme under the Kochi Biennale Foundation.
Creative hands of eight young graffiti artists from across the globe are behind these art works. The streets of Fort Kochi and Mattancherry which were lying unattended have received the makeover with the onset of the fourth edition of Biennale.
The artists have been researching and doing a great amount of background work to turn the walls into meaningful art pieces. The Biennale foundation started filling walls with graffiti since its first edition in 2012.
This would be the first time the Biennale Foundation have made a formal invitation to the artists for doing the graffiti on streets. The graffiti work began on October 25 and will be completed by 20th of this month. The biennale will begin on December 12 and will extend till March 29, 2019.
Shanto Antony, Nikhil KC, Kiran Maharajan, Luanna Senna, Tito Senna, Parag Sonarghare and Do and Khatra (Siddharth and Nikunj) are the artists-in-residence.
