Mananthavady: Once left abandoned, the Pazhassi park here is being crowded by visitors and tourists when it reopened after renovation. Pedal boating is one of the main attractions here.
The park which was opened after renovation on December 27 has already crossed the 3000 visitors mark. The entry fee for adults is Rs 20 and for children it is Rs 10.
Pedal boating attracts the crowd. Visitors themselves can pedal the two or four seater boats through the Kabani river. 20 minutes of boating in the two seater boat costs Rs 200 and the four seater costs Rs 350. To take still cameras inside the park will cost Rs 20 and video cameras Rs 100. The park is opened from 9 am to 5 pm.
The park which was opened in 1994, gradually underwent destruction. It became the shelter for thousands of bats. The visitors have to be banned from the park when the state was hit by the deadly Nipah virus.
Renovation worth Rs 88 lakh was carried out with new facilities including walkways, children’s park, seats and disabled-friendly toilets installed.
Rs 2 crore has been approved for the second phase renovation of the park which is expected to be completed by April 30, 2019. More lights will be installed and the timing will be extended, said Baiju Thomas, Manager of Pazhassi Park.
