Peerumedu: Violating the Covid restrictions, a large number of visitors are gathering at the tourism spots in Idukki including Paruthippara. The locals are fearing virus transmission as other-state registration vehicles also arrive here day and night.
The number of vehicles on high range roads increased as lockdown was eased and inter-district transport resumed. Though the tourism centres under District Tourism Promotion Councils are still shut, the rocky landscape here attracts visitors in monsoon for a mesmerising view. Also there are no check points on the way here which makes it easily accessible.
Quite a number of people arrive here on two wheelers with no masks or helmets. Off-roading and racing with jeeps are a common sight.
A tourism police-aid post building was constructed here, it is non-operational even after 1.5 years. Locals have demanded police inspection to check the flow of visitors.
