The government has approved Rs 1.47 crore for the beautification works of Meenpidi Para in Kollam district. The approval was given for the second phase of Meenpidi Para tourism project. Apart from Meenpidi Para, a 960 sqm area surrounding Pulamon canal is also included in the project.
Meenpidi Para is one of the most beautiful and scenic places in Kottarakara. It comes under the Kollam tourism sector. The waters at Meenpidi are believed to have healing properties. The water flowing through medicinal herbs reach the falls which maybe the reason for the medicinal properties. Hundreds of tourists visit the place for herbal bathing every year.
Tourists are provided an option for trekking in Meenpidi. The place is situated not so far from the town so public transportation could be availed. The place has been maintained under Kollam Eco-tourism project.
Stone-laden walkway will be built on both sides of Pulamon canal, fence construction, grass lawns, view deck, rain shelters and children’s park will also be installed. LED lights and statues will be installed as part of beautification.
Aisha Potty MLA submitted the project prepared by State Nirmithi Kendra to minister Kadakampally Surendran. The approval for the Rs 1.47 crore project was given after detailed examination by the tourism working group. MLA said that concerned authorities have been instructed to begin the project works soon.
The Meenpidi Para development have also been included in Pulamon canal development of Haritha Kerala Mission.
