Neyyattikara: After years of wait, the Erattinpuram tourism project at Neyyar is all set to take off. Rs 2.5 crore has be approved for the project including Rock park, Children’s park and Ropeway. The inauguration of the constructional activities was conducted on Saturday by tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran.
Erattinpuram is a rocky region along the banks of Neyyar. The tourism project here was in the agenda of all the municipal administrations. Without being realized, the fund was transferred from every budget. Finally, the state tourism department has decided to implement the tourism project.
For the first phase of the Rs 4 crore project, Rs 2.66 crore has been allotted. The project will be implemented in 4 acres of land including the rocks, hills and the natural island. 3.5 acres of land is in the possession of the municipality. 46 cents of land were bought additional for the project.
The first phase of the project includes building the ropeway from the road to the region. Along with this rock park, children’s park, treehouse, comfort station, coffee shop and vehicle parking yard are also planned.
K Ansalan MLA said that the project will be implemented preserving the natural rocks. Statues will be carved on the rocks in Neyyar.
The project is implemented by the District Tourism Promotion Council. Water authority is in charge of the constructional activities.
A steel bridge will be constructed in the second phase along with other constructions. Rs 1.5 crore has been set aside for the implementation of the second phase.
